Houston Electives
The following is a list of electives offered at Floot Fire. Each camp offers electives based on the specialties of the faculty at that location. Electives change from location to location and year to year. It is part of what makes each camp special and Floot Fire so unique!
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a tool to help you rediscover your natural uprightedness and to free you from unnecessary tension. AT is a hands-on discipline meaning a teacher must touch you to help you sense the quality of your movement and to help guide you to better poise. If you suffer from aches and pains while playing your instrument or just want to create better technique and breathing, this class is a MUST!
Beginner Piccolo
Learn the first steps in playing the piccolo. This class is for students with little or no piccolo experience.
Better Practice
Learn how to take fundamentals to a higher level and apply to your flute literature! Learn how to “decompose” a piece of music and tailor your practice to the needs of your piece.
Extended Techniques
Beginning in the 20th century, composers began to experiment with new sounds that could be produced by our modern flute. These techniques have been used to expand the palette of flute sounds, evoke new moods, and also help strengthen and reinforce traditional playing techniques. Students will learn techniques such as Harmonics, Multiphonics, Flutter Tonguing, Singing and Playing, Beatboxing, and more!
Flooty Yoga
The name says it all. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a yoga mat.
Low Flutes
Meet the low end of the flute family. Participants will be introduced to alto flutes, bass flutes, and the mighty contrabass flute. We will learn how to handle these gentle giants and have an opportunity to perform on them. Instrument provided.
Taking an Audition
Learn how to prepare for an audition. This class will discuss preparation, performance, and dealing with nerves for all of your up coming auditions!
Rhythm Fun
Need help with rhythm and pulse? In this active class you will learn rhythm, counting, and pulse through movement and games. By clapping, stomping, and a variety of activities to different beats, participants will develop a better understanding of timing, and musicality—all while having a blast!
Advanced Piccolo
This class is for students interested in furthering their skills and growth on the piccolo. For students with two or more years of piccolo experience (suggested).
Some electives are divided by class level. Please be sure to select the correct class level when registering.
