Boston Electives

The following is a list of electives offered at Floot Fire. Each camp offers electives based on the specialties of the faculty at that location. Electives change from location to location and year to year. It is part of what makes each camp special and Floot Fire so unique!

Better Practice

Learn how to take fundamentals to a higher level and apply to your flute literature! Learn how to “decompose” a piece of music and tailor your practice to the needs of your piece.

Body Mapping

We all have an idea of how our bodies are put together, whether you have consciously though about it or not. This is your Body Map and it governs all of your movement. If your map is faulty you will move with greater effort and run the risk of injury. We will studying the size, the structure, and the function of our body so we can learn to have more fluid movement and ease in our music making. If you suffer from aches and pains while playing or just want to improve your technique or breathing, this class is a MUST!

Extended Techniques

Beginning in the 20th century, composers began to experiment with new sounds that could be produced by our modern flute. These techniques have been used to expand the palette of flute sounds, evoke new moods, and also help strengthen and reinforce traditional playing techniques. Students will learn techniques such as Harmonics, Multiphonics, Flutter Tonguing, Singing and Playing, Beatboxing, and more!

LOW FLUTES

Meet the low end of the flute family. Participants will be introduced to alto flutes, bass flutes, and the mighty contrabass flute. We will learn how to handle these gentle giants and have an opportunity to perform on them. Instrument provided.

Some electives are divided by class level. Please be sure to select the correct class level when registering.
